CGSC Level 1 CrossFit Certification

The Command and General Staff College is hosting our next Level 1 CrossFit Certification in early October 2010 (tentatively). On completing a Level 1 CrossFit certification, attendees will have sufficient understanding of CrossFit's methods, concepts, and movements to continue independent and successful development as a CrossFit trainer or athlete. This certification will allow our Army’s future executive officers, operations officers, and our other field grade officers the ability to provide oversight in their units in the development of functional fitness programs. The Command and General Staff College is providing for twenty-five scholarship slots at no cost to the attendees.

There are no prerequisites to attend this training, but there is an application process. All applications must complete a 250-word essay. Please explain what functional fitness means to you, why you want to become a CrossFit trainer, and what you want to achieve as a trainer. This essay does not need to be long but it should be from the heart.

Also, please include background information on yourself, information on your exposure to functional fitness (work at exposure to a non-profit military affiliate, other CrossFit facilities, length of time training with CF or functional fitness methods etc, desire to attend, etc).

When completing the essay, DO NOT put your name on your essay. Please attach a cover sheet with your name, school attending, small group, and email address. Your essay will be separated from the cover sheet and read without knowledge of your name and other information. The selection committee will create an order of merit and submit the OML to the Command and General Staff College for final approval.

Please contact any of the POCs if you have any further questions.

More Q & A
Q: Where do you train?
A: Anywhere on Fort Leavenworth - there is no set location. Basically, the location that best suits the WOD.

Q: Why are there no classes?
A: This isn't a business, so there are no formal classes. If you need a hand, check out the trainers page, and anyone can help you out.

Q: But I want to go to a CrossFit class. Where can I do that?
A: Monday through Friday at Gruber Gym. These classses are run by MWR, specifically by our friend Stewart from CrossFit Results .These classes are recommended for anyone starting out. A coach's eye is essential.

Q: Well, those don't fit into my schedule, can I join up with you guys?
A: Heck yeah! We are all about it! There are generally two groups that workout, one in the morning around 0530, and one in the afternoon around 1600.

Q: When do you meet?
A: Depends on the individuals, but generally there are Level I trained folks at the times listed above.

Q: So what's the point?
A: This is a non-profit military affiliate, administered by the students of CGSC with oversight and mentoring by the faculty. It's all about the FUN! Plus, with the website, everyone has a location to post their results.

Q: How do I get certified?
A: Simple, attend a Level 1 certification - there is one coming this fall (tentatively early October). Details will be available soon on how to attend through CGSC. More to follow!
